I especially liked your advice about the domain renewal. This has caused problems for us and our clients on a few occasions. (In such cases, the notifications for renewal were going to a defunct email address.)
By the way, we use 1and1 for most of our domain procurement needs. Good service, no problems, good pricing...thus far.
