Lara - appreciate the comments. The part that really resonates and I would go to the mat defending is that if you write good content and make sure people about it (while doing it in a way friendly to the major search engines), you're probably going to do alright. Love the seo feedback!

Ditto what Jeremy said - good on you for posting this.

To answer your question you asked at the end there, I think that ProBlogger's writing projects are many things, but "bad" is not one of them. Not in any way, SEO related or not.

People aren't supposed to just copy the entire list of participants and post them (though many do, and don't realize the potential harm in doing so). They're encouraged to pick a handful they like (after being encouraged to "surf surf surf" and find them) and spread the link love.

It's genuinely more about sharing sites you like with others for traffic sharing than it is for link juice. (Take it from someone who's participated in ProBlogger's projects quite a bit, is an SEO, and has had a multitude of conversations with Darren about this kind of stuff.)

Think of it this way: When you wrote that post initially deciding to link to Geoff's site it was because you liked it. What if you found that post because you were on a site that listed a bunch of posts like that? Would that list be wrong? Would your link be wrong? Not in the least, and you'd likely find other sites HE linked to on his site that you would like as well. Is that wrong? Nope.

Not everything everyone does on the internet is for Google's sake... keep that in mind is all. :)

Thanks for the update Justin, I appreciate you clarifying the differentiation - since all Geoff did was write a great post and contribute to a contest.

All the best to both you and Paul on continuing to grow this blog into a fantastic resource :)
