What DOM Looks for in a Digital Marketing Candidate
At Direct Online Marketing, we’re proud of the team we’ve built—people who are passionate about staying ahead in the ever-changing world of digital marketing.
When it comes to hiring, we look for more than just skills on paper. We care about things like:
- A shared commitment to doing great work
- Being open and transparent in how we communicate
- Keeping things clear and honest—no fluff, no spin
- And taking a thoughtful, disciplined approach to everything we do
We believe in building relationships based on mutual respect, within our team and with our clients. One of the things our employees love most? Our “No Jerks” Policy. It’s real, and it makes a big difference.
We also value time together. While we’re flexible throughout the week, we do have one in-office day to keep collaboration strong. During that in-office day, we kick things off with an all-hands meeting, enjoy cross-department training at lunch, and every other week we make time for a fun team-building activity. Some of us even head next door afterward to grab a drink and hang out.
It’s about doing the work and enjoying the people you do it with.
Our Hiring Process
We try to assess whether there is a good fit between each candidate and DOM. Digital marketing isn’t for everyone, and not everyone is looking for a digital marketing role.
When DOM offers someone a position, we do so because we believe it’s a good match of talent and opportunity.
It takes a good deal of communication between candidate and DOM for such a match to become clear. We’ve developed a 7-part hiring process that has helped us staff our agency with people who take pride in their work and who care about each other.
Submit Your Resume
Reach out! Put yourself on our radar. We’d be happy to take a look at your resume, portfolio, whatever you think showcases your talents. This is where we start looking for that fit between candidate and agency.
Work Behavior Assessment
We like to get a sense for your personality and cognitive strengths through our work behavior assessment. It’s a set of questions and exercises that helps us understand what roles you’d be likely to thrive in.
Phone Interview
There’s nothing like actually talking to see whether this would be a good fit. We arrange phone interviews to learn more about you, and to give you the chance to ask questions about DOM.
Knowledge Assessment
We’ll ask you to display your skills with a take-home exercise once we’ve narrowed down the kind of role you’re being considered for. This is your chance to show your marketing prowess!
In-Person Interview
Meeting face-to-face is key to understanding how you’d mesh with the team. You’ll get to see our space. We’ll dig into your knowledge assessment and get a better sense for what you’re looking for.
Request More Info
We might ask you a few more questions or to provide supplementary materials at this point. This helps DOM make final decisions. You might be invited to further interviews with members of a specific team.
Offer Letter
When we identify a great fit between person and position, we present you with an offer. (One we hope you don’t refuse!)
Over our nearly two decades in digital marketing, we’ve learned that getting to know people in a thoughtful, multi-step hiring process pays dividends for us and for the candidate too.
Each stage is intentional.
It’s how we look for both performance and cultural alignment. We’re not merely sorting for someone who fits the job description.
We want to understand how you think, what drives you, and how you collaborate. And we want you to get a clear view of who we are, how we operate, and whether you can see yourself growing here long-term.
That’s how we build a team that sticks around, gets results, and actually enjoys the work.
